Imam Amir Karic, the senior imam; Brother Paolo Philipovic, a Franciscan from the Catholic Church; Rev. Niko Tosic, senior priest at the Serb Orthodox Church.
With Paul Johns and Junuz Toric from SANA, they are working on the programme for the conference. The programme for the week is below, full details will be available in June.
British members will fly from London to Sarajevo on Sunday October 4th and return on the following Saturday.
To begin with, it is intended that, in Sarajevo, the group will meet with national religious leaders, and with staff from the British Embassy and British Council; and have time to visit the old city.
The group will then visit Srebrenica before spending three days based in Tuzla. In and around Tuzla, there will be meetings with the Mufti, the Orthodox Bishop, and the Mayor; visits to the medressa and the Catholic School, to a drug rehabilitation unit, to a project for handicapped people, and to a village still suffering from post war poverty.
As well as visits there will be time each day for discussion of issues proposed by both British and Bosnian members of the conference and for daily prayers.
More information will be available in June. We plan to have an information and briefing pack ready for British members before we travel in October.
The estimated cost for British members is £500. This includes air travel between London and Sarajevo and bed and breakfast accommodation for six days in Bosnia.
The original announcement for this event continues below.

Zajedno u Bosni! Together in Bosnia!
A conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from 3 to 10 October 2009. This will be a small gathering, of about 24 people, roughly half from the UK and half from Bosnia, half Muslim, half Christian. The conference is an unusual opportunity; for leaders from both faiths, from countries at opposite ends of a shared continent, to meet and discuss their vision and experience concerning the role of faith communities in promoting social cohesion.
The costs of the conference itself and travel in Bosnia will be covered by a grant, but people attending will be expected to find their own airfare from London to Sarajevo (approx. £250), and the cost of hotel accommodation (b+b) in Bosnia (also approx. £250) per person for the week.
Bosnia is a fascinating country from which we can learn much; a European country, a post communist secular democracy, with deep religious traditions, mainly Muslim but with substantial Christian minorities, Catholic and Orthodox, and a small Protestant one. Bosnia is burdened still with the legacy of the bitter conflict of the 1990s, but it is preparing for membership of the EU.
This conference is being hosted by local religious leaders: Imam Amir Karic, Fr. Paulo Philipo (Catholic), and Priest Milan Topic (Orthodox), with the backing of regional leaders: Mufti Hussein Kovasovic and Orthodox Bishop Vasilije Kacavenda.
It will be based in Tuzla, a city in north east Bosnia, with a tradition of interfaith cooperation. It will revolve around visits to local community development projects, also visits to Srebrenica, and to Sarajevo for a meeting with members of the Bosnian Interreligious Council. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from people of faith in a country in some ways very different from ours yet experiencing comparable problems adjusting to social change. So do please let us know if you are interested in attending.
