Christian Muslim Forum AGM
Published date: 29th October 2008

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, the Christian Muslim Forum's Founding Patron chaired our AGM at Lambeth Palace on 9 October 2008.
The Archbishop reflected on the Christian Muslim Forum: 'One of the virtues of the Forum is that it operates at that grass roots level: that it seeks to build trust and understanding among what for the sake of brevity I'll call ordinary believers and the challenge is to translate the theological and intellectual dialogue with the issues of local and national, social problems.'
He offered four areas where the Forum could extend dialogue between Christians and Muslims:
- the financial crisis: principles about economic life
- tensions between religion and science
- environmental issues - the environment is given for us to care, not exploit it
- the nature of democracy - society with genuine liberty and interdependence, where everyone's voice is guaranteed a hearing

He closed by saying, 'a society unable to deal with religion is dealing on a less than human level ... but as religious people we mustn't imagine that we can all gang together. The Forum is wonderfully well-equipped to keep these issues on the agenda. That's what the Forum is for - common wisdom, shared discernment and hope.'
This was followed by a Q&A session
