Why Women?
The original work areas of the Christian Muslim Forum did not include a women's strand because there was a risk that having a distinct specialism might contribute to the marginalisation of women and issues relating to women. However, the gender balance of our events, though improving, has often been male-dominated and there were clear needs for Christian and Muslim women to meet together. We decided at our residential meeting in March 2008 that we should create a Women's specialism, ably led by Dilly Baker and Wahida Shaffi, who had already been running Christian-Muslim women's retreats.
